This short story is set a year or so after The Library at Mount Char. It focuses on the effect the events of the book have on ordinary Americans. It is just chock full of spoilers for the novel. Also, very likely it won't make any sense to anyone who hasn't read the book. For the rest of you, I hope you enjoy it.
Note: this is taking a bit longer than I thought--I'll try to have it up before the book launches on June 16. Sorry!
Every year, Suvudu does a March Madness style tournament of fictional characters. This year (2015) the theme was Women Warriors. As an expert on neither women nor warriors, I was a natural choice to do a couple of the writeups.
Lyra Belacqua of Philip Pullman's His Dark Materials trilogy vs. Death of Neil Gaiman's Sandman universe.
Susan Sto-Helit of Terry Pratchett's Discworld squares off against Patrick Rothfuss's Felurian.
These were a lot of fun to write, but the turnaround time is about 48 (!!!) hours. That doesn't leave a lot of time for research and polishing (he said dryly). Apologies to the creators and fans of the characters for any lapses on my part.
